Activity #1 - Exploring the iTunes Player

  • iTunes: Groups Explore and Share
  • iTunes is a free download
  • Use the resources below and tutorials on YouTube to lean about your assigned topics using the iTunes Player. Then prepare to share with the group the information you learned.

Activity #2 - Exploring the iTunes Store

  • Exploring the iTunes Store On Your Own
  • Create an iTunes Store Account Without a Credit Card
    • This is just additional information. It is not needed for this activity.
  • Subscribing, Downloading and Viewing Podcasts
    • Task: Search the Store
      1. Choose "Podcasts."
      2. Find "Math Dude." Browse the collection, and download a track.
      3. Find "Grammar Girl." Browse the collection, and download a short track.
      4. Create a playlist for the tracks you have downloaded, or choose "file"> "new playlist." Click the plus sign in the playlist bar, title your playlist, go to Recently Added section, and drag your tracks into your new playlist.
      5. Share with your group or neighbors.

  • Arkansas on iTunes U
    • Another option to find Arkansas on iTunes U - Get to the iTunes U tab, select K-12, and then select Arkansas
  • Task
    • Preview one of our top downloads by hovering over the title and clicking the arrow that appears over the number.
    • Follow the Student Showcase link, browse the collections, and download one track that is LESS THAN THREE MINTUES long.
    • Go back to the Arkansas main page, select a Category on the right, and find a collection that interests you. Download a track that is LESS THAN THREE MINUTES long.
    • Click "See All" to see the podcasts currently in our library.

Activity #4 - Exploring iTunes U Content for Your Classroom

  • Exploring iTunes U Content for Your Classroom - Group Work and Presentation
  • ITunes U
  • As a whole group, discuss and review what makes a good podcast.
  • Explore the content of iTunes U. Select criteria and evaluate podcast collection that you find applicable to your content area. Be prepared to share one podcast collection. Presentation should be no more than 3 minutes. Include the following in your screencast.
    • your evaluation results,
    • how you would use the series
    • target audience.
  • Use Screen-Cast-O-Matic to Record your presentation.
  • Share.

Activity #5 - iTunes U Brainstorm of Ideas

  • iTunes U Brainstorm of Ideas for New Podcast Collections
    • You have looked at the podcasts available from Arkansas on iTunes U as well as podcasts available from other schools and states. Brainstorm with your group a list of topics for possible podcasts that you might be interested in producing or would like to see added to Arkansas on iTunes U. Consider topics that you are always looking for more information on or topics from other resources that never seem to meet the needs of your students.
